It is with a great deal of sadness that I have just learnt of the death of Amos Capps, whose username on the Hangout and Hub boards both was "Grumpy". We here had all been very worried about him and had tried to contact him, because we had not heard from him for a while. I believe he was aged 70 at the time of death, and it was not totally unexpected, not completely out of the blue. He had survived lung cancer, he had other physical problems, he was largely confined to a wheelchair. At his last place of residence he was living in Arkansas; I together with Never, the board co-admin, who lives in Ohio, once visited him there for a day.
This is only a short notice, since I am still on travel and without any consistant or good net connection. Once I am back home in several days' time I will write more about Grumpy, a piece in his memory, since we at the Hub (this board) and especially the Hangout (the other one I co-admin) care about our members. I also do not have all the details yet, and they have been hard in gaining, since Grumpy lived quite isolated socially, and the Hangout most of all was Grumpy's main and almost sole social outlet and meeting-place. Grumpy was an atheist, and felt very isolated in the USA because of this, and much appreciated mixing atheists in the Hangout, and with people generally in the Hub. He died sometime between October 24 and 28; apparently he was cremated, and his ashes scattered in a nearby river by a part-time health-caregiver of his.
I feel very bad about his death, even though it was something that could have happened any time over the last few years.
RIP Grumpy, a.k.a. Amos Capps.
