A friend of mine is involved in a team effort at hosting and mounting an art exhibition of relatively unknown new German artists in Köln (Cologne, Germany). The exhibition is titled, "Der Blitz schlägt nie zweimal am selben Ort ein", which translated means more or less, "Lightning never strikes twice in the same spot". It is running at:

Temporary Gallery Cologne
Mauritiuswall 35
50676 Köln

Tuesday to Saturday inclusive, 12 midday to 6 pm, and the exhibition will continue there until 21 August 2010 (the opening ceremony was on last Thursday, 15 July; I apologise for being so late to blog about it).

The artists whose works are shown at the exhibition are Matthias Bildstein, Philippe Gatz, Nina N. Doege, Lutz Fritsch, Clemens Botho Goldbach, Andreas Golinski, Sabine Hornig and Lutz-Rainer Müller.

Those in the team doing the curatorial work (is this the right way of saying it in English? Sometimes I have no idea any more) of organizing and mounting the art exhibition are advanced students at Bochum university, and are Sabine Becker, Jennifer Crowley, Sandra Dichtl, Andrea Günther and Sarah Sonderkamp.

The exhibition organizers say:
Quote:
All of which means, loosely translated by me:

Quote:
"Referring to the folk proverb Lightning never strikes twice in the same spot, the artworks will only be shown in this manner and in this arrangement only this one time and place. As an integral part of the exhibition it is thereby also the spatial place, which builds the framework for the exhibited artworks. It is not a means to an end, or a neutral repository or container, but on the contrary inducement/occasion and starting-point for the artworks".
Photos I made on the opening night on last Thursday:

You make it sound like they were helping with the setup; I wouldn't call that curatorial, but I'm not all sure what the position your friend is in entails.

The position is like the person at an art museum who determines how artworks should be set up and presented.

Ah. In that case it may very well be curatorial. I dunno.

Ha! So you are becoming German! Victory at last!

And I think it should be either curatoring or curatoritating. Maybe curatorialating?

Or maybe curetaliating? I think it sounds better when it's a verb, anyway.

Okay, I should stop now. Sorry for being a silly bugger. Thanks for the interesting article, I wish I could have made it. Also cheers from my gipsy wife. :-)

I actually had big spelling problems with this blog post. When does one stop spelling exhihibibibition?
