Delfina Alvarez Selgado, of Punta Gorda, Belize, appeared first in court on 12 October 2010, charged with fortune-telling, where the charge had been laid against her in the wake of the arson attack on the ACES center (it being alleged she had incited the arson attack) on which I have blogged before. She was scheduled to go on trial on Thursday, 21 October 2010. At that trial, the magistrate dismissed the charge, since the Prosecution was unable to give any eyewitness testimony, physical evidence or forensic evidence that either showed Ms. Delfina Alvarez Selgado had ever been a fortune-teller for hire, or that she had any connection at all whatsover to the arson attack, let alone inciting it. I would like to personally thank several people who cannot be named here who helped with my blogging and inquiries on this whole affair. I would also like to thank the office of the Belize Ombudsman, Ms. Cynthia Pitts, and I would like to deeply thank the magistrate who heard the case on Thursday.

So much for the garbage story of how a psychic / fortune-teller / witchdoctor / medium had supposedly incited the attack.

Meanwhile, no-one has been arrested for actual participation in the arson attack in which the ACES center and the house of Vincent Rose and Cherie Chenot-Rose were burnt down.

Nor have the two missing children, whose disappearence was allegedly the reason for the arson attack on the American Crocodile Education Sanctury (ACES), Onelia and Benjamin Rash, yet been found. They were allegedly last seen "in the village of Cattle Landing some three and a half miles outside of Punta Gorda Town. That was Monday August 31st at 3:48 pm".

On a personal note: so much for all the witch-hunters who were only too happy to have an alleged psychic in the frame for the crime, and to condemn someone without any facts; framing seems so loved by some.

Apparently I am the very first on the whole net to break the story of the dismissal of all charges.

The Hub and my blog: where you get the facts. First.

According to google, you aren't just the first, you are still the only one to report the dismissal of charges on the web. Everyone was so eager to cut her up, now they are silent.

Nothing sensational about the charges being dismissed.

Delfina was once a very respected and admired person in Punta Gorda, and she will be again after a little time has passed. While many of her friends stood by her, people being what they are, many whom she thought were her friends turned on her and joined the gossipmongers.

Delfina is overjoyed that this nightmare is over, but she will still hurt inside after most of P.G. has forgotten all about it.

This is the Hub spirit. We may be small, but we try harder.

If there is one thing I cannot stand above all else, it is self-righteous witch-hunts.

    Some people are like that.

Indeed. But the nightmare is over.

Who was the first person to say that Delfina had made a statement (true or false, psychic or otherwise) about the missing children or their where-abouts? And when?

It was Pedro Rash to the PG police

"Who was the first person to say that Delfina had made a statement (true or false, psychic or otherwise) about the missing children or their where-abouts? And when?"

Amandala reports and quotes Pedro rash:

"Rash also recounted how the “witchdoctor” planned to find the children; she would divine their location by performing magic on items of clothing belonging to them and have the police accompany her to that exact location.

Pedro Rash added: “She asked me about giving her some clothing for the pair of children; I brought it that same day she asked. She told me she will do the magic work on the clothes; she will inform the BDF and the police and go in that area. When we saw her here this morning, in front of Mr. Mariano [Senior Superintendent Robert Mariano, officer in charge of the Punta Gorda Police Station], I informed the police before I gave over the clothing to her. I wanted the police to take a statement for this, but Corporal Avila did not take any statements, such as …details like what color they [the clothing] are. Corporal Avila told me that he knows the witchdoctor, and I asked if she could help them in locating the children. That’s when they [the police and the witchdoctor] left…” [He did not say where they went.]" http://www.amandala.com.bz/index.php?id=10297

Allegedly, it was Pedro Rash (to be the first to make the accusation/allegation). I'm not at all certain all aspects have yet been uncovered.

It seems that Pedro Rash made these statements to the Police before the fire at ACES and before the first news reports made it to TV and it was so widely known by the time Vince Rose was flying to PG from SP that he mentioned it to the news crew:

Just posted this comment to the original Myers blog on the subject:

    Quote:
For the record, the individual accused of claiming to be 'psychic' appeared in court in Belize on the 21st Inst on a charge of 'fortune telling'. The magistrate threw the charge out, as the prosecution had failed to present any actual evidence. Thankfully for her, unlike some people who appear to accept just about anything if it supports a pet theory, the court concerned was not impressed with rumours and malicious gossip.
