Postcards! Postcards! And: away for a couple of weeks

Posted 16-Nov-2012 at 03:36 AM (03:36) by Gurdur (Stranger In An Even Stranger Land)

I will be going away on a trip for roughly twelve days all in all starting this Saturday, and for almost all that time I will not have any internet access, nor will I have any cellphone access for all that period. I will describe more of my upcoming trip in my very next blog post (a lengthy personal update, which will get written tonight after this one); part of it will be to the famous Olduvai Gorge (also known as Oldupai Gorge) in Tanzania, East Africa, and I will take extra care to make videos...

My second visit to the Neander valley, and the Neanderthal Museum

Posted 18-Oct-2012 at 06:10 PM (18:10) by Gurdur (Stranger In An Even Stranger Land)

I made a second visit to the Neander valley and the Neanderthal Museum, mainly to photograph the wildlife-conservation efforts there. I was particularly chasing up a herd of aurochs, since I have a funny true story from years back involving those aurochs (written about here), but I was unsuccessful that day in finding any aurochs. I did find, however, genuine European bison (Bison bonasus, also known as Wisent), photos below, and tarpans. Well, wannabe tarpans. Like the aurochs and the Heck-cattle,...

A story of aurochs, PhD's and men

In the medical neuro facility, the top prof was a bloke who was very young in comparison with the usual run of chief professors in Germany. He was a biologist who was thought to look down upon the medical people there as being clueless about "real" neurology, and while he was undoubtedly very intelligent as well as young, he had a couple of odd quirks in his psyche. One of those quirks was cattle; in a uni neuro facility devoted to humans (although with occasional forays into lab rats and the neuropsychology...

Postcards for you, from the Neanderthal valley

Posted 12-Sep-2012 at 07:12 PM (19:12) by Gurdur (Stranger In An Even Stranger Land)

One thing I completely forgot to mention in my blog post on visiting the Neanderthal Museum was that I bought 8 postcards. I will send anyone who wants one a postcard from the Neanderthal Museum. Here is my blog post (with videos) over my visit to the Neanderthal Museum. I can wait till I visit the Neanderthal valley again in around 2 weeks or so, and throw them into a mailbox there, to see if they get a poststamp saying "Neander" somewhere or other, though I doubt it. Most likely the poststamp...

Come with me for a visit to the Neanderthal Museum, Germany

This is by way of something I have done for you all; an amateurish photographing and videoing of the Neanderthal Museum in Germany. Pardon the lack of professionalism in the making of the videos; I'm still learning by doing, the hard way, and this was simply an off-the-cuff trip made to show others what the museum is like. I made videos because a person on Twitter requested I do so.

The Neanderthal Museum (which has an English version of its website)is relatively near Wuppertal...
