As an update to my previous blog post on the latest West Virginia mine disaster: it has been reported that, "Federal inspectors found a string of safety violations at a sprawling Raleigh County coal mine in the months and days leading up to an explosion that killed 25 this week, including two citations the day of the explosion. Miners were so concerned about the conditions that several told their congressman they were afraid to go back into the mine".

Not all that long after the Wikipedia link for Sago Mine disaster Sago Mine disaster in 2006 in a coalmine in West Virginia, there has been another bad coalmine disaster in West Virginia, at the Upper Big Branch Mine, Montcoal. The owners of the Montcoal mine, Massey Energy, had simply ignored and/or evaded many safety issues:

I've already posted this information on the Hangout and on the Hub, but it does bear repeating, and there are other things to say about it all too, so I'll say those in my next blog posts, and for this one, I will keep it to saying where one can donate to help Haiti and Haitians. Please keep in mind assistance to Haiti will need to go on quite a long while since in essence most infrastructure there was destroyed in the earthquake.
