Gamification of human society has gone on a lot longer than you might think. There is the ancient game of chess, which came to to the West via Persia (checkmate, IIRC, comes from shah-mak, meaning death of the Shah). Chess, which has Chinese (象棋, Xingq) and Japanese (将棋, shōgi) forms as well, models both human society and ritualized warfare. Much more ancient is the game of Go ( 囲碁, igo). After some serious blog posts, and because I am working on several very damned serious blog posts to be posted soonish, and also since comments under my third-last blog post drifted right away from the blog topic onto baths, well, not so much drifting as maelstrom-ing onto the subject of baths. Hey, I really don't mind such derails; but the evil part of me now is gleefully considering what people will talk about here under this blog post if they want to derail. They're going to be put to hard work...

It's only now been revealed that Isabelle Caro, a French model who suffered from anorexia nervosa herself, and who posed nude for an anti-anorexia campaign in 2007, died on 17 November 2010 at the age of 28. While the immediate cause of death is reported as a respiratory illness, the anorexia she suffered from quite possibly was a major contributing factor.
