So here's the Society, Ethics And Science (SEAS) Weekly blogs round-up yet again. You can see other blogs round-ups of mine here. Of course, times are rather overshadowed by the UK riots, but onwards we go. A little disordered, and some posts mentioned are from July, but hey. I'm still catching up in all of this.

Jealous defenders of The Truth ®™: Hey, that means you. How to do it better!

A very common problem in academia and other fields is an anguished defence of The Truth® against [take your pick]: outsiders, the Unwashed Masses, religionists, religion, accommodationists, Gnu Atheists on an ignorant flame-spree, anti-vaccinationists, ideologues, the uninformed public, the socialists, the Republicans, the Democrats etc. etc.. Or in other words, a lot of people share the feeling, if not the same side. Another, loosely-associated problem is that the Enemy [whomever you pick] sometimes...

These are links, without any further comment or judgment from me; they contain information that may be good, and may be useful to you if you are building Facebook pages for the purposes of activism. Also some info about other things and so on. Part of my mini-series, "So you want to be an activist?" I do not necessarily recommend nor give approval of the below links; I just provide them in case they may be of help to you.

Part 2 of general advice for bloggers, activists and networkers

This is Part 2 of general advice for bloggers and activists; simply tips gleaned from here, there and everywhere around. You can read Part 1 here. One bit of advice which I found very relevant comes from a novel, "This Is Not A Game" (USA edition, British edition), by Walter Jon Williams. It's a very good novel just by itself, and it also contained a bit that went something like this:

Live the schedule
Love the schedule

General advice for bloggers, activists and networkers, part 1

Just gathering together some general advice, and applying it as tips for bloggers and activists, from a variety of sources (and therein lies the first tip - make your sources as wide and varied as possible and still effective). This is Part 1. This particular part is drawn from business advice; nonetheless it's translatable and good advice. You can read Part 2 here.

Make your ghetto into a suburb

I get around a lot, and I see so many people living in quite a lot of different artificial, disguised ghettos. A lot of people, when they suscribe to one philosophy or another, tend to start mixing only with those who suscribe to the same thing, and start actively blocking out the outside world -- building and guarding a ghetto for themselves and others. I'm talking about the web, the blogosphere, psychology and general life.

So you want to be an activist? The TwiFaBlog strategy

If you want to be an activist, the very basics that you need to be effective over the net are a Twitter account, a Facebook account, and a blog or board.

Whenever you make a blog post of any significance at all, you should tweet about it, using hashtags (#word) to help it be categorized and easily found in searches, like so (an example):
