Was struck by a sentence in an article at the Guardian today; "Invasion of the body scanners" by Victoria Coren at: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisf...vacy-paparazzi

In 100 years' time, will [ privacy ] be a forgotten historical curio, like the crinoline? Or will it creep back in as a retro fashion for romantic occasions, like the candle? ("For a cute novelty this Valentine's Day, why not make love to your partner without broadcasting

The Las Vegas of Free Will: CHOICE: ( "It's the real thing!" ) ;)

I thought that it might be worthwhile having a look at the social construct which is "choice".

Choice; a value judgement applied to situations in which believe that are free to do or have one of two or more things. ... I started thinking about how "choice", in a culture/society which believes in free will, has a curiously dark side to it though.

Go to a doctor with anxiety and depression and one of the things they may trot out, ( before prescribing...

My "Third" Eye, and Consciousness. :D

So, if my thoughts and beliefs, ( those which I "see"/am aware of at any given moment ), are "simply"/"merely" the wake of the boat which is my body including my brain; a product of the interaction of language and my body, my "eye" of attention/consciousness on the other hand is like a spotlight flitting about in an ocean lighting up the fish, which are my thoughts, swimming here and there, sometimes my spotlight follows one, or two, or a whole group, only...

Objective Reality

I've been thinking about the question that Thales asked me on his welcome thread, about objective reality.

I believe in the existence of an objective reality, but I am not quite sure exactly what it is, ... that which can be measured perhaps ... that which enough people agree on ... that which seems to be free of subjective

Secular Faith, Secular Gods.

A few days ago I posted four ( ) comments on Fizzle's blog about Secular Humanism in which I described what faith meant to me, here, at:

And I have carried on thinking about it.

Secular humanism seems to take a very critical stance on faith, ( "taking things on faith" for instance is seen as unsound ), and yet its critical regard only seems to apply to faith in the social construct which is god....

A Connection Between Morality and Belief in God?

It occurred to me that there was one way in which ethics/morality and belief in god might be connected: the understanding that everything is connected.

Understanding, really grasping that everything is linked, that no man is an island, that 100% independence is death, that what I eat affects my mental health, that what I buy has an impact on people all over the planet, that every thing I do is the result of something else, etc, etc, etc, ( even if many/most of the paths may be...

Relationships with Websites

Recovering from this morning's sugar blues/"hangover", and full of perhaps the best pea and ham soup that I've ever made I think I'm ready to talk about my relationships with websites.

Soon after getting the internet, 4 years ago now, I was looking for online games without too much download, and found Runescape; that was my first internet love! I played it passionately for about four months.

I was both stunned and rather worried by my involvement in...

I Don't See Any of my Heathen Here! ;)

It might have something to do with the fact that I have eaten way too many bowls of homemade soup today, ( celery, carrot, ham, tomato, bits of tuna, courgettes and sliced potatoes, and olive oil and garlic and duck fat and egg yolk), or too many pieces of homemade rice-flour and almond cake with sweet, juicy, nearly-caramelised prunes ( stewed beforehand in apple and grape juice ), and/or the cold today, below zero except around lunchtime, but am feeling exceedingly soporific.

Heathen Thoughts ( Introducing myself )

Part I. My comments on Gurdur's blog about "Dialogue, Respect and Contempt": ( Part II to follow on this thread )

I "decided" to believe in god two years ago; it's one of the ways in which I construct my own meaning, although recent insights into how my thoughts are "only" the vapour trail and not the plane have had me wondering what if any effects it has "really" had on my life. Am I just perceiving/framing my story, assigning cause, attributing...
