Breaking news on honeybees -- big news
Big news on honeybees -- it appears that honeybees can learn in the wild from related subspecies of honeybees. The distinction between what you can bring an insect or animal to do in a testing lab, and what it does naturally in the wild, is an important distinction -- it often seems that one learns more in the lab (both the researcher and the animal or insect), but what happens in the wild can often be much more illuminating. Anyway, bees aren't renowned for having large brains, yet here appears some news that the little buggers are quite capable of springing a surprise or two. Bees translate dances of foreign species : Mixed hives learn to interpret signals and some good info on the bee-dance and Bee learning and communication and The Waggle Dance of the honeybee and The Round Dance of the honeybee and Now for something completely different, but still the same, it's all honey, it's the dance of the bee. |
