If you're like me and don't have very solid grounding on philosophical issues (any of them) or just want to check the "basics" (that is, definitions and all the first steps), then I propose this thread as a collection of resources about philosophy in general, the branches (ethics, metaphysics, epistemology, etc) and/or specific issues.
Now, while books are undoubtedly welcome and recommendations are encouraged (so despite what I'm about to say, post books anyway), my idea with this thread is that we can use it to instantly access the information while online, whether for debating, understanding a debate or argument or just for our own personal education. After all, while books can be more comprehensive than web pages, with the internet you can learn many things about a topic (in this case, philosophy) in one place and there's something to be said about that. Anyway, enough blabbering. Here are a few links I've found: Stanford Encyclopedia Of Philosophy Logic & Fallacies Reason and Rationality This seems to be an exploration of reason itself and our ways of thinking (very brief skim read by me) Internet Encyclopedia Of Philosophy IEP: Ethics Open Directory Project:Philosophy Cambridge Journals; some free content Philosophy(wikipedia) I consider Wikipedia to be a good place to start from in many cases, especially when the article draws from many sources (I take this to mean that it's a good starting overview on the subject) Wikibook: Philosophy User generated "book" containing relevant articles Get going! ![]() ETA: On the Richard Dawkins forum, there's a thread called "Philosophy Resources for All" that seems very worthy of perusing. However, the site is undergoing heavy maintenance and it's inaccessible. Once it's up again I recommend going and bringing back whatever seems of use.

Thanks. I once did something similar for the JREF board, i.e. I put up a thread of good reading sources in philosophy (the same one as this one which I put up here); it was not warmly greeted nor warmly appreciated. I guess a lot simply don't like philosophy.

Since you gave it a nice Thread Prefix and good tags, it's easily findable again, and everything is fine. |

Wikiversity: Philosophy
Philosophy classes from a Wikipedia sister project. I don't know how good they are of if they even are any good, since I know diddly-squat about Wikiversity. |
